K & N air filter fit

Fitted one today and went for a quick 100 k ride. Used to run on oem with oem air box.
Have noticed the changes below in the engine

Revs way better than stock. Engine is smoother and wants to take off a bit
earlier. Had random misfires before the change on down shift and engine braking. No more.
Recommend the change to all as I am very pleased with the result. Such little effort too for the change!

A definate,I think if running the airbox, :) and once in place just follow the cleaning instructions and you'll never need to replace the filter again... For the extra couple of dollars compared to the OEM yamaha it's a win win

Agreed especially with standard Mikuni carbs. FCRs in the future. Bikes 1995. Original carbies not doing too bad after 18 years I suppose.

thanks mate!

I'm using the same setting, but looks like the problem with my bike is in the fuel hoses...

Hey All! - Me again with a new question :)

- recently my TRX is giving me bad times with the idle - when the bike is cold it starts with no problem and the Idle is stable. Then when start riding across the town and have to stop on traffic light or at very low speed the bike suddenly cuts out - the only cure is to rev it a bit - First I was suspecting the hose from the petcock to the vacuum pump - as it was quite long and bent - now this is fixed but the problem still appears.

Can you please advise if this comes from worn emulsion tubes and needles OR(/and) valve clearance? Or I'm missing something else?

(The same problem is having a Duc Monster 400 (with the exact Mikuni carbs as the TRX) that my friend asked me to try to fix it - but wanted to sort out the glitch at my bike first ).

Thanks in advance for Your help! :)

Check fuel flow...dirt in the tee piece strainer. ...Pump diaphragm pin hole.....vacuum leak....tank cap breather. .....Or when were the clearances done last? ?

Thanks Fung!

I have to admit that I didn't checked so far the valve clearance and the compression of the cylinders so far - I'll do that as soon as possible :)
Once i bought the bike, the carbs were leaking badly and I replaced all the o-rings and cleaned the cabs(twice to be sure that all is set as it should be) - but I didn't check the emulsion tubes if they were worn out - I'll have to stop by to the Yamaha dealer here in BG for a set of new needles and emulsion tubes - if they are not worn - they will be in a few years :)

Yamaha will charge like a wounded bull. A few of the lads have sourced some good quality after market jobbies at a pretty good price..

Yes, for sure,...search the forum for the carb kits available...cheap and offer all that's needed to refurbish your Mikunis.
Yamaha will be expensive. #-o

Does anyone make a foam air filter ? I use foam in my car so would like to use my foam cleaning kit on the bike.

Thanks for the help!

I'll make a search here and will try to purchase the needed kit and then - will update the tread with the result :)

About the foam filter - in another forum (vx800forum.com) a fella used uni foam and made himself a set of air filters, using the flanges of the original ones - so I believe it is not impossible to do so for the Trixxie.

Ram air are a high quality foam type and will stretch over your inlet snorkels that are in the air box.
Search ram air filters....they arrive as a set of two.
