After a flurry of interest, I think everyone who wants a set has put their hand up by now. I for one am itching to get on and get these valves fitted and the valve clearances shimmed up,and the cams in and ready to go.

With that in mind I propose to place the order for our valves on Mon 19 November. We should have our valves around 9 weeks later :D.

I'll be contacting you all by private message in the next few days.

What's the final cost with all the other people buying a set?

This might be a way of making the long winter pass a bit more quickly. I can always try and justify it as an early christmas present

Shopping list = Big valves, Kent cams? some porting die grinders or a dremmel and time at a machine shop skimming head and cutting valve seats

what do you reckon that lot would come to?

The final cost is £193-00 for the set of 10 valves (+1mm oversize) and this includes Vat. The postal cost is about £6-30 in the UK (tracked, signed for and insured for £200).

Let me know fairly soon if you'd like a set :)

Johno, pm sent.

Well, we finally passed our 10 set minimum order, and so far have between 12 and 13 sets spoken for. If you asked for a set,you should have received a pm by now requesting a deposit before Mon 19th when I will be ordering. If you haven't heard from me, you're not down for a set :( . So be quick if you want one :).

I for one cant wait to start building a big valve motor, adjusting and setting compression ratio and squish, installing and adjusting camshafts and generally all the little things that help to make nice torqey, drivable power :D.

I have spent time so far inexpensively modifying my Trx to handle the way I want. I'm very satisfied on that front,so the winter and spring will be the time for my motor to produce the sort of power and torque that the super chassis is crying out for.

Setting targets for power and torque is fraught with danger, and, as I've sometimes observed here, more than a little disappointment. I know the kind of riding experience and type of power delivery I'm aiming for, but cast iron dyno target figures, perhaps not. I'm not after monster (for a Trx :) ) power. I'll happily sacrifice 6 or 7 peak horsepower for 4 or 5 at around peak torque rpm's. I may have to play around with cam advance and lobe centre angle timing to achieve this..... I already have some ideas for exhausts too.

What I must do though, to quantify any gains, is to dyno the bike before I start and then again when the programme of works is completed.(using the same dyno)

This approach makes perfect sense to me. I have standard valves in my TDM900 engine but with Kent cams and a mild TTS porting job (all done by the previous owner at 7000 miles). coupled to a Power Commander and Akrapovic end cans, K+N filter and the air flap removed, it doesn't make big power at the wheel but uber usable power and torque at mid range - ideal for the road. It's making a credible 69 BHP at 5000 rpm - just where I want it.

If I could be arsed I'd go for the big valve approach.................but I can't be arsed :|

I have placed the order for our big valves this afternoon :D . So now its just a case of waiting for them to arrive at the beginning of Feb 2013.

I have quite a few preparatory jobs to be getting on with leading up to Christmas, but the workshop has become distinctly unappealing as the weather has become colder.I just tell myself time spent there will pay dividends in the spring when the work's done and the bike's all ready for the nicer weather. Right,I'm going out there :) .

I`ve been making up some LED indicators in alloy square section for the front of my TRX fighter in it`s latest incarnation, they`ll look pretty trick when finished.

I don`t really do photo`s, one of the reasons for that is my lack of anything to capture images on! (no camera, no modern mobile with `modern` gadgets on it either).
I tell you what, just to keep the naysayers from comment I`ll borrow a camera and take a photo of my alloy / LED combo bars from the fairing / front cowl I`m using for my fighter. :P

Cobba, losing 2 kg eh? Good on ya pal, I`ve recently lost around 12lbs (5.45kg) from my `bulk`. I wasn`t particularly trying though it `s been more a consequence of the stress I`ve been under for the last couple of months or so.

Oh and Mark:

THANKS PAL, you`ve been an absolute gem in all you`ve done to make this `business` of bigger valves happen. =D>
